Our external doors are available in two finish options:
- Pre-Primed - Ready for painting, and
- Natural Timber - Ready for staining, oiling or painting
Timber is a natural material. Movement, expansion and contraction are normal characteristics of solid timber doors.
Meranti is our most commonly used timber for standard external doors. American Oak is also available but must be installed in a fully protected position with no direct sun exposure. Custom doors are manufactured locally using Rose Gum, with other suitable hardwoods available on request for higher exposure environments.
All external doors must be sealed on all sides prior to exposure to weather. Very dark paint colours (including black) are not recommended for sun-exposed doors, as dark finishes absorb more heat, which can increase timber movement and lead to warping or reduced coating longevity.
Industry standards recommend overhead protection for external timber doors, with the degree of protection required depending on the timber and site exposure. For full details, please refer to our External Door Care Guide and exposure table.
