Front Porch Properties Doors – Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a showroom?
No - we operate from a warehouse, where it’s possible to view and collect doors by appointment.
We operate primarily online as part of our lean business model. By avoiding expensive retail showrooms and unnecessary overheads, we keep our costs down and pass those savings on to our customers.
Can we pick up our doors from the warehouse?
Yes - collection is available from our warehouse by appointment.
Can doors come pre-hung in a frame?
Pre-hung options are available on request. Standard purchases include the door only (not installed in a frame)
What does pre-hung mean?
A pre-hung door is supplied already installed within a frame.
Pre-hung doors are commonly used in new builds or full door replacements and can simplify installation.
Do doors come with a handle?
Handles and hinges are sold separately. Here is the link to our handles & hardware.
Do you offer installation?
We do not offer installation services directly.
Any qualified carpenter or licensed builder can install our doors. If you are located in Brisbane, we may be able to recommend a local installer.
How many hinges do I need?
As a general guide:
• 2040mm high up to 920mm wide — 3 hinges
• 2040mm high over 1000mm wide — 4 hinges
• 2340mm high up to 920mm wide — 4 hinges
• 2340mm high over 1000mm wide — 5 hinges
• Stable doors require 4 hinges
What are your external doors made from?
Our external doors are constructed from solid Meranti timber as standard.
Custom external doors are made locally in Australia using Rose Gum. Other hardwood species may be available on request depending on project requirements.
What are your internal doors made from?
Our internal doors feature a solid finger-jointed timber core for strength, durability, and a solid feel.
An MDF outer skin is then applied to create a smooth surface that paints beautifully.
What type of glass do you use?
External doors are fitted with 6mm toughened safety glass.
What types of glass do you offer?
Our most popular glass options include clear, reeded and cathedral.
We can source most glass types available on the Australian market by request.
Is a front door with glass secure?
When it comes to home security, it’s worth remembering that a nearby window presents the same security risk as glass in a door.
All glass used in our doors is 5mm Australian toughened safety glass, which is significantly stronger than regular glass and fully compliant with Australian Standards. Laminated safety glass is also available on request, although most customers find our standard toughened glass more than adequate for residential use.
Glass in a front door remains a very popular choice in residential homes because it allows natural light to flow into your entry, creating a brighter and more welcoming space.
Do you offer double glazing?
Double glazing is available as a custom option.
Because double-glazed units are thicker than standard glass, the door must be specifically manufactured to accommodate the deeper glass cavity.
Do you offer BAL-rated doors? / Do your doors have a BAL rating?
Our standard doors meet BAL-12.5 requirements.
Higher BAL ratings may be available upon request. Please contact us to discuss further.
Can doors be trimmed down and by how much?
Yes, most of our doors can be trimmed to suit your opening.
Trimming allowances vary depending on the specific door design and size. We recommend checking the product page or contacting us before trimming to confirm the allowable amount for your chosen door.
Are there colour restrictions for external doors?
Very dark paint colours (including black) are not recommended for sun-exposed external doors. Dark finishes absorb more heat, which can increase movement in natural timber.
Do external doors need overhead protection?
Industry standards recommend adequate overhead protection for external timber doors, depending on site exposure. This helps reduce weather impact and extend the life of the door. You can view more information here. (Link to external door care guide)
